Marilyn Okowa-Daramola is an experienced lawyer with a Master’s Degree and Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Lancaster University (2013) and the University of Nottingham (2010).

As the immediate past Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor of Delta State on Girl Child Empowerment, she directed the activities of the Girl Child Empowerment Office from July 2019 to March 2022 positively impacting thousands of lives directly, and tens of thousands indirectly — thereby setting a new standard for project execution in Delta State. Marilyn pioneered Project GEST–the Girls Entrepreneurship and Skills Training Programme—which has since 2020, been responsible for training, empowering, and establishing at least 1350 female entrepreneurs in Delta State. Project GEST recorded unprecedented success under her leadership as 96% of its beneficiaries are currently running successful businesses and are actively contributing to their families and communities.

Before venturing into politics, Marilyn served as an Assistant Legal Officer at the Central Bank of Nigeria, and as an Associate in a few reputable law firms in Nigeria such as Messrs, Banwo & Ighodalo and Alex Izinyon (San) & Co. She is the Co-Founder of the Michael and Marilyn Foundation, an NGO that provides education for children from economically disadvantaged homes and communities. Over the last few years, the Foundation has supported over 1000 children through its outreach programmes.

“Even the greatest was once a beginner. Don’t be afraid to take the first step.”

Be the change!
